Copenhagen shooting: Suspect suffers from mental health issues; this is the charge against him.

Following the shooting on Sunday evening at the Fields shopping center in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, police arrested a 22-year-old Danish man near a highway close to the shopping center. He was in possession of a rifle and ammunition. On Monday morning, police confirmed that the suspect was already known to have psychological problems. Police also confirmed that he had appeared in several videos on social media, which the public began circulating on social media after the incident.

Chief Inspector Søren Thomasen of the Copenhagen Police stated at a press conference this morning, Monday, at 8:00 AM, that “there is no indication that the suspect worked with others or received assistance from others,” and that there is nothing in the investigation, documents, or testimonies that indicates or can prove that it is terrorism, and therefore there is no indication that this is a terrorist act, according to Søren Thomasen.

The charge against the suspect
Thomasen stated that the suspect is accused of manslaughter, adding that the suspect is already known to have psychological problems, and did not say whether the suspect had previously sought psychiatric help.

Random victims
Police assessment is that the attack was not motivated by sex or anything else concrete and that the victims were random. Police have not yet added any information about the motive.

According to Thomassen, the suspect was questioned, and he added that he would not explain what the suspect said before the constitutional hearing (investigation session).

Thomasen added that the police are aware that since the shooting, several videos of the suspect have been circulating on social media, and Thomasen confirmed that the police will include the videos in the investigation.

The suspected perpetrator prepared for the attack himself.
The suspected perpetrator was arrested with a rifle and a knife in his hand. Police learned that the man also had a handgun, although he did not have a permit to possess weapons. According to police, he planned the attack himself.

At a press conference held at 00:45 on Monday morning, the chief inspector of police stated that the suspect was previously known to the police, but only minimally.

Victims of the attack
According to the police, three people were killed in the shooting incident at the Fields shopping center: a Russian man (47 years old), a Danish boy (17 years old), and a Danish girl (17 years old). In addition, a number of people were injured, which the police did not specify, while they explained that three of them are in the hospital in critical condition.
