Security, emergency services, and East Jutland police were present Monday afternoon at the Romalt recycling plant where a fire broke out in a large waste storage area. Firefighting operations are expected to continue until Tuesday.

East Jutland police received a report on Monday at 13:21 of a fire breaking out in a large plastic and wood waste storage facility at Randers waste station in Rummalt.

The fires are causing a lot of smoke that can be harmful to health, police said in a press release.

The smoke is moving north over the fjord, and all the way to Tradium near Jomfuløkken.

Police are urging residents to go inside their homes, close doors and windows, and turn off ventilation systems. If you feel unwell after exposure to smoke, contact your doctor or the on-call physician.

You should only contact the police or emergency services if you have more serious symptoms.
