A massive fire broke out on Friday in the roof of a residential building on Frederikssundsvej Street in Copenhagen, prompting a large-scale intervention by police and fire crews to evacuate residents and contain the blaze.

Evacuation of residents and closure of roads

Authorities also closed Frederikssundsvej Street between Hulgårdsvej and Theklavej, as well as parts of Hulgårdsvej, due to firefighting operations and heavy smoke.

The fire got out of control

A Copenhagen police official told TV2 that the fire was spreading rapidly across the roof of the building, adding that firefighters worked to prevent the flames from spreading to other parts of the property.

Police explained that the fire was not under control in the early hours of the incident, while emergency teams continued to work inside the site.

No injuries recorded

Copenhagen police stated that no injuries have been reported so far, either among residents or emergency teams.

Authorities also urged residents in the area to avoid the smoke rising from the building and to stay away from the fire site.

Images and videos published by local media showed flames engulfing the roof of the building, along with thick plumes of smoke rising above the area, while large parts of the roof appeared to have suffered extensive damage.

Investigations to determine the cause

Police stated that the cause of the fire is still unknown, confirming that investigations will begin after the firefighting operations are completed and the site is fully under control.
