The Danish Foreign Office confirmed on Tuesday evening that a Danish citizen had been found murdered in Egypt, according to the newspaper BT, as reported by TV2.
The ministry says relatives have been notified but cannot provide the newspaper with further details in consideration of their duty to maintain confidentiality.
The local English-language newspaper, Egypt Independent, wrote on its website that she was a woman in her thirties and that the murder took place in her home in a residential compound in Sheikh Zayed City in the Giza area of Cairo. This information has not yet been confirmed by Danish authorities.
According to Egyptian media, security personnel in the residential area where the woman lived notified the police after the body was found. Forensic scientists are currently examining the body to determine the cause of death, and the police are also reviewing video surveillance from that area.
