The Gellerupparken area in Aarhus is set to receive a visit from the Queen soon.
Queen Margrethe II is celebrating the 50th anniversary of her accession to the throne this summer. The Queen is scheduled to sail on the royal ship Dannebrog on a visit to several Danish cities and municipalities. When the Dannebrog docks in Aarhus next month, specifically on June 3 and 4, the Queen will visit the Gellerupparken area, according to a press release issued by the Aarhus municipality.
Gellerupparken is considered one of the least socially fortunate residential areas and is included in the list of residential areas described as parallel communities, formerly known as the ghetto list.
The fiftieth anniversary of the rule
During the Queen's visit, she will be briefed on the municipalities' plans in the region, and in addition, she will be celebrated as part of the 50th anniversary of her accession to the throne.
The visit will begin with Queen Margrethe II taking a carriage ride through the city, accompanied by more than 50 horses from the Royal Guard, to the site of the celebration as a popular festival. After riding the carriage, the Queen will go out onto the balcony of the Aarhus City Hall, so that the residents of Aarhus can pay their respects to her.
The celebration in Aarhus will conclude with a folk festival in Memorial Park in Marslesborg, featuring free admission and concerts.
Queen Margaret boarded the royal ship “Dannebrog” on May 4th.
It is worth noting that the royal family has been sailing on the ship almost every year since 1932, and last year the ship had engine problems, so it had to be taken out of service for part of last year's trip.
In addition to the city of Aarhus, the royal ship will also pass through Slagelse at the end of August, after which the journey goes to Smålandsfarvandet by Lolland.
Frederiksberg and Tønder municipalities are also part of this year's summer trip, the Royal Household previously stated.
