There are currently nearly 10,000 vacant rental properties in Aarhus, prompting landlords to come up with new ways to entice new tenants, including two months' free rent, a gift bicycle, or a Rema1000 shopping card, according to TV2.

A battle is currently raging in the housing market in Aarhus, as a result of a construction boom that has lasted for several years and led to supply exceeding demand, prompting some landlords to adopt creative methods in the hope of securing as many rental contracts as possible.

According to the source, figures from Statistics Denmark, compiled by TV2 Østjylland, show that there are nearly 10,000 currently vacant rental properties in Aarhus municipality, a number that has doubled in just five years.

In the Blækhus residential complex in North Aarhus, tenants can get two months' free rent, and with apartments in Risskov Engby, in addition to two months' free rent, they can also get a purchase card worth 3,000 Danish kroner from the Rema1000 store.

At the new Basecamp building in Katrinebjerg, the first 100 tenants can receive a free bicycle with their lease. According to Aarhus Stiftstidende, new tenants at Arresøvej in Risskov can also receive a gift card worth 10,000 Danish kroner towards furniture and curtains.

One of the places where there are also about 500 empty apartments for rent is the new Unity apartment complex next to the water tower in Randersvej, but its owner has not resorted to enticing new tenants as he believes that demand will naturally rise due to students who are waiting to be accepted into the universities of Aarhus at the end of this July, and therefore will be looking for accommodation. Therefore, he expects all the apartments to be rented before next December, according to the source.
