According to TV2, Copenhagen Airport will take the lead in a new project that will revitalize Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), in which Denmark is the main shareholder with an equity stake of just over 26%.
The Danish airline is poised for a comeback after several years of crises and instability in its economic situation, as the company now announces 15 new flight routes from Copenhagen Airport, reinforcing the airport as the most important airport for the SAS airline.
SAS director Anko van der Werff told TV2: “This is extremely positive for both SAS and Denmark as a whole. It is one of the most important decisions we have ever made, and it anchors our entire fleet in Copenhagen.”.
At the end of August, SAS exited its bankruptcy protection agreement after being protected for two years, and the airline is now ready to expand and make the Danish capital a greater center for its activities.
The new routes will primarily carry passengers from Copenhagen Airport (Kastrop Airport) to destinations in Europe – with the exception of a new connection to Seattle on the US West Coast as follows:
- Billund, Denmark
- Bodø, Norway
- Budapest, Hungary
- Bucharest, Romania
- Harstad/Narvik, Norway
- Krakow, Poland
- Kristiansand, Norway
- Lyon, France
- Madrid, Spain
- Milan, Italy
- Seattle, America
- Seville, Spain
- Turku, Finland
- Valencia, Spain
It is worth noting that in 2023, more than 26.8 million passengers passed through Copenhagen Airport, and SAS Airlines accounted for 32% of the air traffic.
