He left his two children in the car and went into a supermarket. When he came out, he found the police waiting for him.
A 61-year-old woman rescued two young children who had been left inside a parked car in the sun in the Elmegade area of Kalundborg, West Zealand, while the father was shopping in a nearby store.
The incident occurred at 11:05 a.m. several days ago when the woman noticed two children, who appeared unwell, alone inside a car due to the heat and sun. The car windows were slightly open, so the woman opened the car door, which was unlocked, and removed the children before calling the police. The children were a nine-month-old infant and a one-year-old child.
About 20 minutes later, the children's father emerged from the store to find the police and the woman waiting for him. According to a police report released later by the Central and West Zealand Police, social services were notified of the incident to investigate potential neglect by the father and to assess the children's safety and well-being within the legal framework for child protection in such cases. The children were found to be in good condition after being removed from the vehicle, the report stated.
West and Central Zealand Police used the incident to renew their warning against leaving children or animals inside parked cars, especially on sunny days, as temperatures inside cars can rise to high levels in a very short time, even with windows partially open, in order to avoid accidents resulting from negligence in hot weather conditions, and to encourage parents to take responsibility for the safety of children.
