The Danish Islamic Union (DMU), which includes a number of prominent mosques and Muslim centers in Denmark, published a statement in Danish on the union's Facebook page yesterday, immediately following the call by the al-Qaeda terrorist organization to launch attacks on Denmark and Sweden, including targeting the embassies of both countries. The following is a translation of what was stated in the statement:

“The Danish Islamic Union (DMU) strongly condemns al-Qaeda's call for terrorist acts. The DMU is deeply shocked by the recent statements from the al-Qaeda terrorist organization, which apparently encouraged Muslims living in Denmark and Sweden to commit acts of terrorism. The DMU strongly condemns all forms of violence, terrorism, and extremism, regardless of the cause or motive. At this difficult time, the Danish Islamic Union wishes to emphasize its unwavering commitment to peace, cohesion, and tolerance. The DMU represents a broad spectrum of Muslims in Denmark and actively works to promote peaceful coexistence, dialogue, and cooperation among different social groups. The DMU also wishes to remind everyone of the important Quranic verse: {Whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely.} This verse underscores the preciousness of human life and the importance of respecting it. The sacred nature of human life and the cherishing of it. We call upon all members of society to stand together against all forms of extremism, violence, and terrorism. Together, we can foster peace and understanding and work towards creating an inclusive society where all citizens—regardless of their background—can live in security and harmony. At the same time, DMU calls upon the authorities and the rest of society to remain vigilant against any threat to public safety and to act decisively to protect all citizens from potential dangers.

The statement was published in Danish and the signatories of the statement are listed.
