Denmark ranks first in the European Union in social media use, while the last is…

According to a new report published this morning on the Statistics Denmark website, figures show that Denmark uses social media more than any other country in the European Union, with nine out of ten (91%) using social media at the beginning of 2023. This represents an increase of 6 percentage points compared to the previous year, when the figure was 85%. The most recent comparable figures available from other EU countries date back to 2022, when Denmark had the highest social media penetration rate in the EU.
The country with the lowest social media usage in the European Union
In contrast, the data showed that France has the lowest percentage of the population using social media, at 44%, while the average usage in the European Union is 58%.
All children in Denmark aged between 16 and 19 are on social media.
Although social media is part of the vast majority of people’s media use in Denmark, there is still a difference between age groups, with use steadily decreasing with age. While 1,001 TP3T of people aged 16-19 already had at least one social account at the beginning of 2023, the corresponding proportion for the 70-74 age group is 661 TP3T. This shows that the difference between young and old people’s use of social media has become noticeably smaller since 2017.
