Health authorities: New, stricter measures in case of infection or suspected infection with the Omicron variant
The Danish Directorate of Public Health issued new, stricter guidelines on Monday for detecting or confirming infection with the Omikron variant of the coronavirus.
The new guidelines stipulate that home isolation measures must be taken for the person infected with or suspected of having Omicron, as well as for close contacts and close contacts of close contacts of the infected or suspected case. In addition to isolation, a PCR test must also be carried out on the first, fourth and sixth days.
Isolation can end after a negative test result on the sixth day.
The guidelines apply to people in the aforementioned categories regardless of whether they have received a coronavirus vaccine or have previously been infected with the coronavirus.
The decision to take these measures comes as a precautionary measure to control chains of infection.
Denmark has also tightened travel restrictions on travelers from South Africa and several other African countries.
The new variant, Omicron, is suspected to be more infectious than other variants and less sensitive to vaccines, and therefore has received considerable attention from experts and authorities.
School closed due to suspected cases of Omicron variant
Two cases of the new variant have been confirmed in Denmark in two people who arrived from South Africa to Denmark on Saturday. In addition to those two cases, nine suspected cases of infection with Omicron are currently being investigated, with the Danish Patient Safety Agency conducting an intensive infection search in all nine cases.
In addition, the municipality of Odense closed Rasmus Rask-Skolen after a student was found to have an “unknown type” of coronavirus. According to the Danish Patient Safety Agency, there is a suspicion of Omicron. The entire school was closed on Monday and about 400 students and staff were sent home. The second and third grade students of the infected student are also being isolated and tested for the virus.
