Coronavirus: More than 2,000 new cases for the fourth day in a row, and 3 parties oppose reimposing coronavirus restrictions.
Figures released by the State Serum Institute show that 2,416 people were infected with the coronavirus in the past 24 hours.
This is the fourth consecutive day that the number has exceeded 2000.
The number of coronavirus patients hospitalized has also risen to 282, the highest number since mid-February of this year. Currently, 40 of them are in the intensive care unit, 23 of whom are on ventilators.
Three more people have died from the virus in the past 24 hours.
It is worth noting that Health Minister Magnus Heunicke has asked the government's epidemiological committee to assess whether COVID-19 should be reclassified as a socially serious illness. The Danish Parliament's epidemiological committee will then have to decide on the committee's recommendation to Parliament. If a majority on the epidemiological committee supports reclassifying COVID-19 as a socially serious illness, Heunicke could—with the existing Epidemiological Act—reinstate COVID-19 restrictions such as mask mandates, bans on gatherings, and the closure of nightlife venues. The Danish People's Party, the New Bourgeoisie, and the Conservatives have all indicated they will not vote in favor of reclassifying COVID-19 as a socially serious illness.
