New emergency agreement in Denmark: 600 million kroner allocated to strengthen preparedness for wars and crises

According to TV2, the Danish government, in cooperation with most parties in parliament (excluding the Unity List and Alternative), announced a new emergency pact aimed at strengthening the country's preparedness for wars and crises. The pact, details of which will be presented Wednesday morning, includes 14 key initiatives to enhance emergency response at both the local and national levels.

Details of the agreement

The agreement allocated a budget of 608 million kronor for the years 2025 and 2026, in addition to 183 million kronor annually until 2033. The initiatives included in the agreement aim to improve emergency infrastructure, increase cybersecurity readiness, and enhance training and practical exercises.

It is worth noting that Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen commented positively on the Swedish government's recent statement that Sweden is not at peace, although it is not at war either, indicating that the overall situation in Sweden is not considered to be in a stable, peaceful state, a point supported by Mette Frederiksen, according to local media on Tuesday.

Budget allocation

The agreement includes five main sections for budget allocation.

National Emergency Management Agency (DEMA)

• 145 million kronor allocated to recruit more personnel and improve facilities.
• Investing in specialized equipment to deal with extreme weather phenomena.

Climate investments

• 131 million kronor is allocated to improving equipment and increasing operational capacity.

Training and practical exercises

• 37 million kronor to expand practical training and improve leadership training in emergency services.

Communicating with citizens

• Allocating 60 million kronor to improve communication during crises, including awareness campaigns.

Cybersecurity

• Allocating 235 million kronor to strengthen cybersecurity infrastructure and develop a new national strategy.

Objectives of the 14 initiatives

The initiatives include strengthening preparedness for extreme weather events, increasing staffing at the Emergency Management Agency, improving the readiness of chemical and nuclear experts, and developing rescue and fire training. They also aim to improve rapid response during crises and enhance cybersecurity through compliance with EU directives.

Officials' comments

Minister for Emergency Response, Torsten Schaak Pedersen, indicated that the agreement came to meet urgent needs in the face of current challenges, expressing the importance of uniting efforts to ensure Denmark’s readiness in light of changing global conditions.
