The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and the Organization of American States sign a memorandum of understanding in Washington, D.C.

In a prominent international event, His Excellency Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan (President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace) remotely signed from Rome, Italy, and His Excellency Luis Almagro (Secretary General of the Organization of American States), from Washington, USA, a memorandum of understanding and joint work between the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and the Organization of American States, which was founded in 1948 and is headquartered in Washington, D.C. It is one of the oldest and most important international organizations in the Western Hemisphere, and includes 35 independent states from the Americas. Its mission is to promote peace, security, democracy, human rights, and support sustainable development in the region.
The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C., in the presence of Dr. Margarita Restrepo Arango (President of the General Assembly of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace) and Mr. Gustavo Acosta (Representative of the Council in Latin America and the Caribbean). The signed agreement aims to promote cooperation in the areas of tolerance, peace, human rights, and freedom of belief and religion.
During his speech, Secretary-General Luis Almagro pointed to the importance of the agreement, saying: “We are honored to sign a cooperation agreement with the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, and through this partnership, we will work on initiatives that promote democracy, tolerance, freedom of religion and human rights in our region and beyond.”.
For his part, His Excellency Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan stressed the importance of this international alliance, saying: “Tolerance and peace are not just concepts; they are principles that must be reflected in our policies and international cooperation procedures, and this memorandum of understanding symbolizes our commitment to building a more just and peaceful world for future generations.”
The agreement focused on strengthening partnership and cooperation in several areas, most notably: promoting and disseminating international law, developing and implementing joint projects, including training and upgrading professional staff and students in the areas of work of both parties, joint organization and interaction in activities such as research, exchange of experiences and presentation of best practices, building spaces that facilitate dialogue with other networks and entities, in addition to organizing conferences, seminars, dialogue sessions and other joint activities.
The agreement also aims to promote the two organizations’ shared vision of contributing to the development of more tolerant, peaceful, just and equitable societies in the world as a whole, not just in the Americas.
