The Danish government issued a statement Wednesday morning through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs announcing exceptional support for Palestine following news of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza on Tuesday. The statement read as follows:

New Danish aid worth millions of kroner is on its way to the Palestinian crisis following the ceasefire.

Following yesterday’s news of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the Danish government has decided to make an exceptional humanitarian contribution of 75 million kroner to the Palestinian crisis.

“The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has sparked renewed hope. Our new contribution will go towards urgent efforts to save the lives of the severely affected civilian population in Gaza and to support reconstruction as early as possible here in the initial stages of the ceasefire. New momentum has been created, and we are ready to capitalize on it on the Danish side, which could potentially lead to lasting peace. My trip to the Middle East in recent days has confirmed this for me,“ says Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.

The new contribution comes in addition to the nearly 700 million kroner that Denmark has already provided as humanitarian support for the Palestinian crisis in 2023 and 2024.

The foreign minister visited Israel, Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon earlier this week.

The statement has ended.
