Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen began the press conference by condemning Russia's attack on Ukraine, saying that the situation was changing rapidly and that missile attacks had struck many places in Ukraine. She added that today was a dark day for world peace, and that "there is now a war in Europe, a sentence we haven't been able to say for many years, and which many of us hoped would save our children." She also expressed her condolences to the Ukrainian people, describing the situation as a brutal and unjustified act.

Mette Frederiksen stressed that Denmark and the West tried to find a diplomatic solution, but Russia chose brutality, as she put it, and pointed to future sanctions.
