The past 24 hours have been bloody in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, and its suburbs, following two shootings in the middle of the day in succession in the Nørrebro area of Copenhagen and in Rødovre, west of Copenhagen.

Police in Copenhagen's western region wrote on Twitter this afternoon that they had a large presence in Islevbrovej in Rødovre following serious shooting incidents.

Police later reported that three people were injured in the shooting at a hair salon, and a young man was later pronounced dead at the hospital. His identity has not yet been determined, and therefore his family has not yet been notified.

An employee at the barbershop was also injured and is currently in hospital in stable condition.

As of the publication of this report, the perpetrator or any suspect has not yet been arrested. According to the police, this is the fifth shooting in the capital region in three to four weeks. One of the hypotheses the police are working on is that the recent events may be related to a previous episode. However, the gangs that may be involved in the shooting have not yet been identified.

A 15-year-old boy was injured
In addition to the two people, a third person was injured in the shooting incident in Rødovre, a 15-year-old boy who attends a school near the scene of the shooting.

According to the source, there is a possibility that the 15-year-old boy was a random victim of the shooting simply because he was in the hair salon (barbershop) as a regular customer.

Police designate inspection areas
Following the shooting incidents, West Copenhagen police stated tonight that areas in Rødovre and Herlev will be designated from today until the 17th of this month where police in those areas have the right to physically search any person without giving reasons. Other areas will also be designated in Tingbjerg, Husum, Nørrebro and Nordvest for the same purpose and during the same period.

Shooting in Nørrebro yesterday, Thursday
In addition to the shooting in Rødovre today, Copenhagen police were present in large numbers yesterday due to a shooting at the corner between Sorgenfrigade and Nørrebrogade, where a 27-year-old man, who belonged to a gang, died from his injuries after being shot in the back, according to the source. Just 20 minutes later, the police were able to arrest two people, one of whom is 21 years old and speaks Swedish, and the other is an 18-year-old youth.

During today’s constitutional inquiry, they were charged with the murder of the 27-year-old man and the attempted murder of an unidentified person who subsequently fled the scene.

The two men were also charged with possessing a pistol and seven sharp cartridges. Both denied the charges and are currently in pretrial detention until December 22.

According to Knud Hvas, head of the organized crime division of the Copenhagen police, it is too early to say whether there is a link between yesterday's events in the Nørrebro area and today's events in Rødovre.

Minister of Justice: It's absolutely horrific.
Justice Minister Nick Hækkerup stated that he was following developments regarding the shooting very closely around the clock. Hækkerup added: “It is frightening, but the police are investigating and are very present. (What happened) is completely unacceptable, and Denmark should not be a country where people shoot in the streets. It is absolutely horrific if someone shoots in the street.”.

The fact that the shooting took place near a school is also a cause for concern for the Justice Secretary, who said: “It leads to more insecurity when you have children, so you know how much anxiety it causes when something like this happens. It is very worrying when there are such young people involved.”.
