The Danish Directorate of Public Health is currently encouraging pregnant women to get vaccinated against COVID-19, due to the fact that pregnant women are at greater risk of severe COVID-19 infection, as the disease during pregnancy can increase the risks to the fetus and the risk of premature birth.

The press release issued by the Directorate stated that “during the first waves of COVID-19, there were only a few pregnant women whose condition required hospitalization due to the coronavirus, while during the current third wave, we are unfortunately hearing from maternity wards across the country that they are witnessing an increasing number of serious cases among pregnant women who are not vaccinated or who have not previously been infected with the virus,” according to Bolette Søborg, Head of Department at the Directorate of Public Health.
