According to the Danish Food Agency, DAVA Foods Ingredients A/S is recalling its regular and organic cumin powder products (økologisk), as a very high percentage of pyrrolizidin alkaloids (PA) was detected in the products (details of the products concerned are below).

Foods containing pyrrolizidine alkaloids can be harmful to health if consumed in large quantities. This substance increases the risk of cancer, and in this case, the Food Agency found the levels in the products to be so high that they should be discarded. If you have already consumed these products, there is no immediate risk to your health; the concern lies in the duration of consumption. It is important to limit your intake of these substances as much as possible.
