A four-year-old girl was killed and died on Wednesday after she and her mother were hit by a car in Vestergade, Nyborg, on Tuesday. The girl's mother remains in hospital.

The incident occurred when a car struck the child and her mother in a pedestrian area on Tuesday afternoon at 17:40. They were subsequently taken to Odense University Hospital, where the child was still alive but in critical condition, while her mother was seriously injured.

The car was being driven by a middle-aged woman who for unknown reasons neglected her mother and the girl. The police did not detain the woman, and the case was handed over to the investigation department, which must clarify exactly what happened, according to the Fyn police, as stated by Henrik Krøjgaard. A specialist in serious accidents will also assess the speed at which the car was being driven and whether there was any braking or use of the brakes or the like.
