According to TV2, a 65-year-old woman died on Friday after being struck by lightning in the Gørlev area of Kalundborg municipality in West Zealand, as announced by Emil Groening of the Central and West Zealand Police on Saturday morning.
The woman's relatives have been informed.
Police received a report of the incident on Friday afternoon at 3:43, and according to a police statement to Ritso: “She was sitting under a tree, and it is likely that the tree was struck by lightning.”.
A resident of the nearby area had heard two loud explosions, and shortly afterward went to the charred tree, where the woman was found.
Police said the woman may have stopped under the tree to sit and watch the rain. Police also told the source that the woman sustained injuries indicating she had been struck by lightning.
According to the weather archive of the Meteorological Service, six lightning strikes were recorded on Friday around 2 pm in the municipality of Kalundborg in West Zealand (Vestsjælland).
Despite high temperatures and sunny weather in some parts of Denmark, the Danish weather agency has warned of heavy rain and severe weather over the weekend in most parts of the country, and advises checking the weather before planning trips to open areas or driving on roads prone to flooding from heavy rain.
