“"What's going on?" Global media outlets express surprise at Denmark's decision to lift coronavirus restrictions.
According to Danish broadcaster Ritzau, German, Swedish, British, and American media outlets have expressed surprise that the Danish government has chosen to lift all coronavirus restrictions next week. “What’s going on?” was the headline in the German tabloid Bild, for example, which asserted that Danish authorities would reopen society despite record-high infection rates. The Swedish newspaper Expressen wrote, “It was noted that restrictions were lifted in Denmark on the same day that Swedish authorities opted to extend the country’s restrictions for two weeks.”.
Both the American media outlet Politico and the British newspaper The Guardian confirmed that Denmark is opening up to society despite the current high infection rates more than ever before.
These reactions come after the Danish government announced at a press conference Wednesday evening that all coronavirus restrictions in Denmark would be lifted starting Tuesday, February 1.
