According to TV2, meteorologist Andreas Nyholm, who works for TV2 Vejr, warned of a severe winter weather wave that Denmark will experience on Wednesday, with limited parts of the country affected by a real snowstorm, especially in the north of the country.

Official warning from TV 2 Vejr

The weather department of Danish TV channel TV2 Vejr has issued an official warning for a snowstorm expected to hit North Jutland, forecasting heavy snowfall accompanied by strong winds that will cause icy gusts and poor visibility. Read more after the announcement.

Snowfall begins in the west

TV 2 Vejr experts predicted that snow would begin moving towards the country from the west during the day, gradually intensifying over northern Jutland. They explained that sleet would begin to appear in many areas as the day progressed, making it difficult to keep roads open to traffic.

The storm will peak in the evening.

Meteorologists indicated that the snowstorm would intensify significantly during the afternoon and evening, with wind and snowfall reaching dangerous levels in the areas covered by the warning.

What is a snowstorm according to the Danish definition?

Danish authorities define a snowstorm as a weather event in which more than ten centimeters of snow fall within six hours, accompanied by sub-zero temperatures and strong winds that cause the snow to blow away.

Serious repercussions for visibility and roads

A TV 2 Vejr report explained that the combination of wind and snow will lead to the formation of blizzards, causing reduced visibility, the formation of snow piles, and serious traffic problems in several areas.

Most affected areas

The channel predicted that the northwestern region of Jutland (Nordvestjylland) would record the highest amounts of snow, with the amounts gradually decreasing as we move south into the country.

Aalborg site on the edge of warning

Weather experts also reported that the city of Aalborg is on the edge of the blizzard warning zone, while the Himmerland region is expected to receive less snow than required to define a blizzard, but this does not preclude the possibility of sleet and limited traffic challenges.

Warning of a repeat of the January 2024 scenario

TV 2 Vejr stressed the need to take snowstorms very seriously, recalling what happened in January 2024 when the E45 motorway was completely closed, and a number of drivers were forced to wait inside their vehicles for up to 24 hours.

Variation in weather forecasts

The report noted that, just one day before the storm was due to begin, weather forecasts regarding the expected snowfall amount remained inconsistent. Some weather models predicted the same scenario shown on TV 2 Vejr's maps, while others suggested that most of the snowfall would be concentrated over the Skagerrak region.

Winds at the threshold for defining a storm

TV 2 Vejr experts also reported that wind speeds would be very close to the threshold for defining a snowstorm, predicting intermittent snowfall and the formation of snow piles in several areas.

Temperatures and the effect of temporary melting

Meteorologists predicted that temperatures in most affected areas would remain at or below zero, with the possibility of temporary melting in West Jutland and the Vendsyssel region, which could lead to a temporary halt in snowfall.
