It is no secret that living has become much more expensive since the outbreak of war between Russia and Ukraine. Prices for almost everything have risen, and this means that many families are struggling to make ends meet. However, residents of the municipality of Herning can save a little on their budget starting from October 1st.

The municipality of Herning will begin a trial from October 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025, allowing young people aged 16 to 26 to purchase a special commuter card – HerningUNG – for only 210 Danish kroner per month to travel freely using Midttrafik buses within the municipality of Herning, including yellow city buses and blue regional buses. In addition, all residents will enjoy free travel during the same period on local routes 140, 150, 160, 168 and 169, as part of the same trial, according to the Midttrafik website.

Cheap youth passes and free local road travel are part of the climate plan developed by the municipality of Herning, particularly with regard to promoting green transport habits among citizens by making public transport more attractive and visible to citizens, which may lead more people to choose public transport.
