Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced in a brief press statement that a press conference will be held tomorrow morning, Wednesday, at 10:00 AM regarding the “Corona strategy for the coming months” in Denmark. Denmark 24 will publish press coverage of the conference as soon as the information is received.

Health Minister Magnus Heunicke announced today via Twitter that the new Omikron variant, BA.5, is now dominant in Denmark. He also stated that the current reproduction number (R0) is estimated at 1.1, meaning the coronavirus is currently spreading within the Danish community. According to the State Serum Institute, 2,141 new coronavirus infections were recorded in the past 24 hours.

Local infections have increased in recent weeks, but the largest increase has been in the capital region.

High infection rate
On June 17, the Epidemics Committee raised the risk level of coronavirus infection to 2 in the Capital Region - on a scale of five levels for assessing risks - however, the committee stressed that very few people are currently suffering from serious illness as a result of infection. The committee stated that the current number of patients with serious illness who need treatment for COVID-19 is very low, and this was one of the reasons why the Epidemics Committee maintained the lowest possible risk assessment in four of the country's five regions, where the lowest possible risk assessment - i.e., level 1 - is maintained at the national level, with the exception of the Capital Region.
