Swedish police refuse to grant Paludan permission for a new Quran-burning demonstration
According to Swedish and Danish media, Danish right-wing politician Rasmus Paludan and his party, Stram Kurs, applied to the Swedish police for permission to hold a new demonstration in Sweden, but the police rejected the request on Friday.
The party wanted to hold the event within a week in the Swedish city of Borås, located 60 kilometers east of Gothenburg (Yottburg), and the plan included lighters and the supposed burning of Qur’ans.
The request was submitted a week after the party announced a series of demonstrations in Sweden that last week sparked violent riots that injured 26 police officers and 14 civilians.
Rejection due to riots
According to the TT news agency, police stated: “We have seen how the public was endangered and that police officers were injured,” according to Emily Colmer, the area’s police chief, in a press release.
In an email message written earlier on Friday, Rasmus Paludan said they intended to burn copies of the Quran in Borås, as had also been seen in Denmark before.
