Denmark woke up today to several major political news stories, including a cabinet reshuffle in a key ministerial post and a leadership change in a political party. Here is a summary of the events up to the time of this report:

Jakob Ellemann-Jensen resigned as Minister of Defense and became Minister of Economic Affairs. Troels Lund Poulsen will assume the Ministry of Defense. Ellemann-Jensen clarified that he was not shirking his responsibility in the Elbit Systems arms scandal, where he provided misleading information to Parliament. He explained that the position of Minister of Defense requires a full-time commitment, which he could not fulfill due to his duties as leader of the Liberal Party and his ongoing role as Deputy Prime Minister.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was not present at the press conference when the ministers of defense and economy from the Liberal Party announced the exchange of their ministerial portfolios, and she only commented later to the media that it was a wise decision by Jakob Ellemann-Jensen.

Blue parties criticize Jakob Elman Jensen, viewing this change as an escape from responsibility.

– May Fieldsen of the Enhedslisten party resigns from her position as political rapporteur and leader of the party, and Billy Dragsted takes over the role.

Former Conservative leader Lars Barfoed is returning to politics and joining the moderates after previously leaving Danish politics and resigning from a ministerial post in a previous government over a rotten meat scandal and leaving the Conservative Party.

An open session regarding the Prime Minister's deleted text messages in the Mink case began at 10:30 AM.

The Venstre Radical Party announces its plan at the summer group meeting: we must have tax reform, at a time when the Venstre Liberal Party, a member of the SVM government, is talking about tax cuts.

Danes must pay for the “green tax reform,” which the party will introduce gradually until 2030, and taxes should ensure sustainable consumption. The ten proposals are as follows:

• Flight tax

Value-added tax on beef and veal

• Taxes on cement and cement products

• Diesel tax increase

• Gradual elimination of discounts on fossil fuels

• Road toll based on kilometer

• Weight tax on clothing and textiles

• Biomass tax for electricity and heat

• Increased taxes on packaging and one-time service

• Sales tax on nitrous oxide bottles (laughing gas) for consumption
