Danish tour operators are imposing extra fees on summer trips due to rising costs.
Danish news sites reported that thousands of Danes who had booked their summer holidays may face unexpected additional bills, as travel costs, especially fuel, have risen, which is now directly reflected in flight prices.
High costs are causing concern among travelers.
The website DenOffentlige explained that many Danes are preparing to travel as the holiday season approaches, packing their bags and looking forward to a relaxing getaway. At the same time, many are closely monitoring their budgets, especially after the significant fluctuations in airfare and accommodation prices in recent years, prompting many to think more deeply about the final cost of their vacation.
Companies send additional invoices after payment
TV2 also reported that several Danish travel companies have already begun sending additional invoices to customers who have already paid for their trips. This is a result of rising fuel prices, which directly impact the costs of flights and cruises.
Statements from Bravo Tours
Peder Hornshøj, the director of Bravo Tours, told TV2 that the additional costs had become a significant burden on the company, adding: “This has cost us many millions of kronor, and it is clear that we cannot continue to bear these costs without taking action.”.
The report explained that the Travel Act allows companies to raise prices by up to 8% in the event of significant cost increases, provided that customers are notified at least 20 days before their travel date. Currently, Bravo Tours charges an additional fee of approximately 200 SEK per person.
Limited cases at other companies
DenOffentlige noted that Best Travel, based in northern Denmark, also imposed additional charges on some trips, specifically two cruises, as a result of rising fuel prices.
On one trip on the Rhine River, about 110 passengers paid an additional 275 kroner each, and the company's director, Rune Thomassen, confirmed in a statement to TV2 that these increases are limited to a small number of trips.
He also explained that the company only imposes these fees when it, in turn, receives additional costs from its partners.
Other companies refuse to impose increases
The website also mentioned that a number of other travel companies chose not to charge customers any additional costs after booking.
TUI, Spies, Apollo Rejser and SunWeb confirmed in statements to TV2 that they will not send additional bills to customers who have already paid.
TUI's communications director, Mikkel Hansen, said: "We have included a price guarantee in our terms and conditions, and it is clearly written that we do not do that.".
Apollo Rejser also announced that prices for pre-sold summer trips will not change.
Continuous monitoring of price developments
The sources indicated that all travel companies are closely monitoring fuel price developments, especially in light of tensions in the Middle East, which could lead to further increases in costs in the coming period.
This situation reflects a state of anticipation in the travel sector, as any further price changes could affect the plans of thousands of travelers during the summer holiday season.
