Many schoolchildren across the country returned to their classrooms today after the end of the summer holidays, and according to the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, there is a shortage of qualified teachers in Danish primary schools, which is a major problem for students, parents and society in general.
According to Andreas Rasch-Christensen, head of research at VIA University College, the reason for this is that very few people choose to specialize in education, with many leaving the field. In addition, there are a very large number of people who do complete their education but do not choose to work in primary school, or at least do not stay in it. All of these factors combined lead to a huge shortage of teachers in some areas.
