On Sunday, up to 4,400 new citizens and their families were invited to participate in a ceremony for the new citizens who received Danish citizenship. On May 22 of this year, a similar event was held with a similar number of participants.

Therefore, 2022 broke all records related to the number of participants in Citizenship Day, which is a celebratory day, and due to the Corona pandemic, the celebration was not held during the years 2020 and 2021.

The ceremony included welcoming remarks, including one by the Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Henrik Dam Christensen, who urged the new citizens to participate, for example, in trade union life or politics: “My political colleagues and I expect you to be part of the communities that Denmark is rich in.” The Speaker of the Danish Parliament also touched on the war in Ukraine and added: “We ourselves have enjoyed freedom for many years. We also tried to live for five years without freedom, from 1940 to 1945, under German occupation.”.

In addition to the speeches of the Speaker of the Danish Parliament, a performance was given by the Royal Ballet School and there were musical segments.
