Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was assaulted by a man on Kultorvet Street in Copenhagen, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's office to Ritzau, as reported by DR.
The Prime Minister expressed her shock at the incident but had no further comments, the ministry told DR.
According to TV2, the man managed to get past the bodyguards who were accompanying the Prime Minister after a meeting she had with the Social Democratic Party’s top candidate for the European Parliament elections in a magazine. It was shortly before 6 pm, and the man managed to advance and assault the Prime Minister.

According to Copenhagen police, citing the source, the man who hit the Prime Minister has been arrested.

Politicians from across the political spectrum are sending messages of support to the Prime Minister on the social networking site X.
