According to TV2, the concept of grade zero (klasse 0) has been abolished in primary schools in Copenhagen and replaced with kindergarten class (børnehaveklasse).
The decision was made by the citizens' representative in the Copenhagen municipality on Thursday evening. The aim is to send a strong signal and emphasize the purpose of the first school year for children. Copenhagen's employment and integration officer, Jens-Kristian Lütken, stated that the first year of school should be a transitional period between kindergarten and school, with a focus on play and social matters related to learning to go to school, and not so much on how quickly the child learns to read.
