The Ministry of Immigration and Integration published a report earlier today, Wednesday, on the rate of higher education among immigrants and their descendants in Denmark. The report shows a significant increase in higher education attainment by immigrants and their descendants compared to 10 years ago.

While 20% of immigrants from MENAPT (Middle East and North Africa) aged between 25 and 39 in 2011 had a higher education, the proportion with a higher education rose to 36% in 2021, according to a report by the Ministry of Foreigners and Integration.

Although the proportion of people with higher education is generally high in Denmark, the increase among immigrants and their descendants of non-Western origin has been greater than among people of Danish origin. Men and women of non-Western origin have a lower degree of higher or professional education than people of Danish origin, although the gap has become noticeably smaller in the last ten years.

According to the report, Minister for Foreigners and Integration Kar Deppvad-Beck says:
“It is of course wonderful that more people of immigrant origin are getting an education. That is why I welcome these figures. Despite the overall progress, we are seeing fewer non-Western immigrants receiving vocational training, and unfortunately this is a trend we are seeing across the entire population and one that we need to reverse.”.

When it comes to integration in general, we are far from achieving our goal, but we can see that it has generally been moving in the right direction in recent years.

The government is working to ensure that the flow of refugees remains calm in the future. It is important that integration continues to develop positively.
