For the first time: A record number of non-Western immigrants in the Danish labor market

According to the Danish news agency Ritzau, non-Western immigrants have reached a record high in the labor market, coinciding with a record high in employment in Denmark in general. 127,300 non-Western immigrants worked in Denmark in the third quarter of 2022, the highest number ever, according to figures released by Statistics Denmark and Dansk Erhverv.
Overall, the entire Danish labor market has broken records for the number of wage earners this year, and according to Dansk Erhverv, employment among non-Western immigrants in particular has increased by 90% over ten years.
Christian Skriver, chief economist at Dansk Erhverv, commented that this group is the worst in terms of its connection to the labor market compared to other groups, which have generally had difficulty entering the labor market, but in recent years there has been a huge increase in employment among non-Western immigrants in particular, which means that the gap has become smaller.
However, a difference still exists where non-Western immigrants are employed to a lesser extent, and the non-Western immigrant category is considered a potential source of more labor, where The new government has highlighted increased employment opportunities for immigrants. Non-Westerners as a means of increasing the labor supply by 40,000 people.
After several years of more people starting to work, there is a possibility of a slowdown in the Danish economy for the coming years, as the Danish economy may continue to struggle with inflation, and from now on the employment outlook is generally weak for 2023, as the expert also expects employment and job opportunities to decline for this category of non-Western immigrants.
