Minister for Immigration and Integration Mattias Tesfaye stated at a press conference a short while ago that the Danish government is preparing to receive more than 100,000 Ukrainian refugees.

Last week, the Danish parliament passed a special law for Ukrainian refugees, meaning they can obtain a residence permit outside the normal asylum system.

The Minister for Foreigners and Integration stated at the press conference that 12,000 adult Ukrainians had booked appointments for the fingerprinting required for a residence permit, and the same number of children, according to Tsvae.

This means that there are 24,000 Ukrainians within the system at the moment.

Five times the expected
The government initially expected around 20,000 refugees from Ukraine to make their way to Denmark, but this expectation has risen significantly given the large number of Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion, as Matthias Tsvaj stated at the press conference. He said, “No one can predict what we should prepare for, as it depends on how the war develops. But there are already 3.7 million who have traveled from Ukraine, and the vast majority of them are looking west, as well as towards Scandinavia. Against this backdrop, Danish authorities are preparing to receive more than 100,000 people in Denmark.”.
