Hundreds of Danes protest against Denmark supplying weapons to Ukraine
On Saturday, demonstrations took place in major Danish cities including Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg and Esbjerg, denouncing Denmark's sending of weapons of war to Ukraine. Demonstrators carried large banners throughout the country, all bearing the clear message: "Fight for peace, not war.".
According to TV2, Ida Haslov, president of the Women’s International League for Freedom and Peace, commented, “What touches me about this conflict is that we are not only providing financial assistance, but in fact we are supplying weapons to Ukraine and thus prolonging the war… We must be able to look Ukrainians in the eye. We want to help in every way we can, but not with weapons.”.
According to the source, he demonstrated with 400-500 people in front of the American embassy in the capital, Copenhagen, and then the demonstration headed towards Christiansborg, which is the Danish parliament building.
In the city of Aalborg, about 100 people demonstrated, carrying a message that there must be disarmament because arming only leads to an escalation of conflicts, and many people will die, according to Martin Bank of the Danish Communist Youth Organization.
Participating in the demonstration in Aalborg Square in North Jutland, Finland, is Riske-Nielsen from the United Nations, who commented, “It is important that we send a signal to Russia from all over the world that this behavior is unacceptable,” referring to the Russian attack on Ukraine.
The demonstrations were organized by peace activists and the United Nations in North Jutland.
