The Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) published a report on the possibility of power cuts this winter unless everyone in the community contributes to conserving energy such as electricity and gas (see the top tips below). According to the report, the bad news is that it may be necessary to cut off the electricity for a short period in winter if the weather is extremely cold. The good news is that we can all – individuals and businesses – do something about it. If energy use is well controlled, there is a better chance that the winter in Denmark will pass without problems, and it will also mean that the cost will be cheaper for everyone, according to the message from the authorities responsible for ensuring the supply of energy in Denmark. Christopher Butzau, director of the Danish Energy Agency, stated clearly: “The best thing we can do is conserve energy. Save electricity and save gas. If we can reduce Danish energy consumption by 5 to 101 TP3T, we are in a much better position, and the likelihood of power cuts is also much lower.”.

Electricity consumption in private homes fell by about 10% during the first eight months of the year, and savings were nearly double that for gas.
Here are the top seven tips for conserving energy and how to do it:

Lower the heating temperature

Home heating is one of the most significant energy consumption factors.

You can easily reduce a large part of your consumption if you wear a wool sweater and warm loungewear and turn off the heating. As a general rule, you use 5% less energy for every degree you reduce the temperature.. This can be useful when no one is home. And if you draw the curtains when it's dark, you also help to slow down heat consumption.

However, it is important to maintain a temperature of at least 18 degrees in the home to avoid humidity and the damage it causes, as the Danish Energy Agency points out.

It is also a good idea to keep the doors closed and the thermostats set the same in all rooms, so that the heating system does not run for extra hours.

Shorter shower time

Hot water is also one of the factors that makes consumption - and the bill - decrease quickly. You pay for the water and the energy needed to heat it, and there are many good savings opportunities. You can buy a water limiter and put it in the tap, or install the device that mixes air into the water and thus reduces consumption, but the biggest impact is achieved by reducing shower time.

According to the Danish Energy Agency, There is approximately 5,000 kroner that can be saved annually for a family that manages to shower five times a week for ten minutes.

Use electricity when it's cheap

If your electricity subscription has a variable rate, you've probably already discovered that you can save money by adjusting your consumption. Electricity is typically more expensive when you wake up in the morning and in the evening when you're cooking and watching TV, but you can track electricity prices on the SparEnergi.dk website and through various apps.

But even with a fixed price agreement, it makes sense to operate electrical appliances during times of cheap electricity.

Avoid wasting energy without useful use

The worst kind of consumption is when you get nothing out of it. Many electronic devices burn energy even when not in use, for example televisions, gaming consoles, computers, monitors, and chargers, whether at home or at work. Which can reach between 10 and 15% of electricity consumptionAccording to the Videncentret Bolius scientific center.

Saving energy in the washing machine

As a first step, you can save energy by filling the machine with more clothes, and at the same time you can also greatly reduce your consumption by washing at a lower temperature.

For example, If you reduce the temperature by half, i.e., to 20 degrees instead of 40 degrees, you save more than half of your electricity consumption. It is also best to do this at times when electricity is cheaper.

Therefore, it is preferable to hang clothes to dry rather than using a dryer, which consumes a lot of energy.

Choosing energy-efficient electrical appliances

When you have to replace your refrigerator or oven, it is often worthwhile to buy more energy-efficient appliances. The device with the energy label “A+++” uses approximately 25% less than the device with the label “A” The savings are much greater compared to lower-grade devices.

Ensuring good insulation in homes

It may be a good idea to make sure your home has good insulation. For example, windows can cause heat leakage, which results in faster heat consumption.
