A decision was made to evacuate residential complexes in Copenhagen for fear of their collapse.

The news article addressed the criticisms of the residents, including some who have lived in the same apartment for more than half a century, including a Danish woman who has lived in the same apartment for 67 years, who explained that she could not imagine leaving her apartment where she had lived at one time with her husband and three children.

The municipality of Copenhagen considers the buildings they live in to be extremely sensitive to wind and at risk of collapsing when strong winds blow.

The decision includes three high-rise buildings, and the evacuation date will be by June 30 of next year at the latest.

New engineering calculations from the Copenhagen municipality show that residents should be evacuated approximately every three months when there is a strong storm, because the houses could collapse in the worst-case scenario. However, instead, the decision was made by the housing organization SAB and the housing management KAB to evacuate them permanently, even if the residents would prefer the first solution, which is temporary evacuation every three months.

The renovation work at Bellahøjhusene is expected to begin in 2025 and be completed in 2029. During that time, the tenants' relationship with Bellahøjhusene will have ended, and if they wish to return, this can be done through a new agreement.
