An important report by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the challenges facing Denmark’s security policy in the coming years, as well as the prospects for the future tasks of the armed forces, was published this afternoon, Monday.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told a news conference at Frederiksberg Castle that the report paints a bleak picture of the future: “There is no military threat to Denmark at the moment, but nobody knows what the future holds, either in the short or long term.”.

Before that, Mette Frederiksen mentioned what had happened in the world in the past three years, including climate change, inflation, the energy crisis, the food crisis, the coronavirus pandemic, and the war in Ukraine. She continued: “Unfortunately, a bleaker present and future loom than we are used to. Authoritarian forces are advancing, and the international community is in disarray. We got a frightening taste last week with the gas leak from Nord Stream 1 and 2. It is both surprising and alarming.”

Regarding security policy in Denmark, Frederiksen stated that "we face more complex political and security threats." According to TV2, the report contained a "sharp reading" of a completely new world order and a time of uncertainty and the risk of war, with the threat of hybrid warfare, corruption, and highly targeted cyberattacks looming large, according to the source.

It is worth noting that the analytical report was issued under the title “Danish Security and Defence until 2035”, following the formation of the committee by the government in 2020 with the aim of assessing Denmark’s security future.
