Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on the coronavirus situation in Denmark: “I am very optimistic.”
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed optimism regarding the local coronavirus situation during the annual conference of the Radical Left Party (Radikale Venstre) on the occasion of the New Year.
Frederiksen said, “I think we are getting through this winter well, even though it is a difficult time for many people, and we are also beginning to see spring ahead. So I am actually very optimistic when you ask me today.”.
Frederiksen also expressed optimism about the Danes' trust in the authorities, the strong commitment to the vaccine, and "about the seemingly less dangerous Omicron variant if it is not allowed to explode," she said.
Figures released by the State Serum Institute on Saturday showed a decrease in new infections for the second day in a row, with 12,588 new cases of coronavirus recorded in Denmark in the past 24 hours, down from 18,261 new cases recorded on Friday, after a new local record was set when the number of new coronavirus infections reached 28,283 in one day, according to official coronavirus statistics for Wednesday of this week.
The positivity rate for the day was 7.21% out of the total number of tests, compared to 9.38% on Friday. The number of hospitalized coronavirus patients also decreased to 730, with 28 new deaths from the virus recorded locally since yesterday.
