In addition, nine% reported that they were either hit by hand, struck with objects, or kicked by a parent, stepmother, or adoptive parent.

The director of the organization Børns Vilkår described the result as shocking, commenting, "I am actually affected by the level and it does not seem to have improved since the last major study five or six years ago." According to him, violence usually occurs in families under stress.

Børns Vilkår believes that Parliament should take up the UN's 2030 goal of ensuring no children are exposed to violence and proposes an ambitious action plan that includes municipalities, health services, intensified communication campaigns, and drug abuse treatment.

Minister for Social Affairs Astrid Krag said she was shocked that so many children were victims of parental violence and agreed to put in place a new action plan on violence. In addition, she hoped that citizens would be better at informing municipalities if they thought a child might be subjected to domestic violence, commenting: “The responsibility cannot fall on the shoulders of the children. If the sports teacher sees the bruises, I hope that will result in her reporting (to the authorities).”.

It is worth noting that last year a broad political majority in the Danish parliament voted in favor of an agreement entitled “Children First”, which aims to ensure that children become more aware of their rights and also allows for children exposed to violence or abuse to be placed with alternative foster families.
