According to TV2, the Copenhagen municipality has cancelled the transfer of the political residence of the Green Liberal Party leader, Sikandar Siddique, to the municipality.

According to the website, Skander informed a friend of the Ekstra Bladet newspaper of the decision after it was issued, and stated that he would appeal the decision to the Digitalization Ministry (Digitaliseringsministeriet).

Skander Siddiq is a member of the Citizens' Representation Council in Copenhagen (Københavns Borgerrepræsentation), a council that requires residency within the municipal boundaries.

TV2 noted that it had tried to get a comment from Skander Siddiq.

The Department of Culture confirms the case has been resolved.

The Copenhagen Municipality's Department of Culture and Leisure (Kultur- og Fritidsforvaltningen) confirmed in a written response to TV2 that it had resolved the issue of Skander Siddique's residency, adding that it currently has no further comments.

Political commentator: A remarkable case and these are the potential consequences

TV2 quoted political commentator Hans Engell as saying that the case of Skander Siddique's relocation was "remarkable," adding: "I can't remember when we had similar cases.".

Skander Siddiq explained in a statement to TV2 that he will appeal the decision, stressing that he will remain in the Citizens' Representative Council in Copenhagen until the appeal is resolved.

Hans Engel indicated that if the appeal decision is in line with the decision issued today, Skander Siddiq will be removed from the Citizens' Representative Council, noting at the same time that holding new elections is out of the question, even if the final decision ends with the cancellation of his residency.

Skander Siddiq responded to the Copenhagen municipality's decision

Skander Siddiq confirmed in a written response to TV2 that the Copenhagen municipality had decided to cancel his residency registration in the city, noting that the decision did not surprise him.

He said: “I said that Copenhagen should be freed from Zionism. This led to condemnations from the State of Israel, statements from Zionist organizations, and pressure that reached the level of the Prime Minister’s office.”.

He added: “And now we are here. The voters elected me, but the system removed me.”.

He confirmed that he would appeal the decision and would remain in the Citizens' Representative Council in Copenhagen until the appeal was decided, concluding his statement by saying: "This is how free democracies are.".
