Swedish authorities have issued a warning about the increased risk of forest fires in the following areas, and are urging residents to avoid lighting fires and to take extreme precautions due to drought and winds that could cause fires to spread rapidly.
Areas concerned:
North of the Götaland region (Norra Götaland) and the eastern part of the Svealand region (östra delen av Svealand).
There is a high or very high risk of wildfires, and in some areas the risk may be extremely high, especially with active winds or in northwest Jutland with strong gusts of wind.
What should be paid attention to?
- Forest fires can easily be started by things like arson, sparks flying from machinery, or lightning.
- Fires spread easily in forests and natural areas.
- Fires that break out in power line corridors can cause disruptions to electricity and communications networks.
- Check if there is a fire ban in your area, and be very careful when lighting fires or operating large machinery in open spaces.
