The majority voted in favor of the name “Palestine Square” in Nørrebro, while two parties opposed the name and postponed the decision.

After deep political debates over naming an area in Nørrebro in the Danish capital Copenhagen “Palestine Square,” the majority party in the Copenhagen City Council voted today, Monday, to implement the previously planned plan, which was postponed after the events of October 7 last year. However, the Conservatives postponed the issue to a session on 10/3/2024 to vote on it in the Citizens’ Representative Council.
With the majority adopting the resolution, the majority expects the resolution to be adopted on the next mentioned date, and it is expected that the name of Palestine Square “Palæstinas Plads” will be given to the square in Nørrebro between Esromgade, Nørrebrogade and Hillerødgade, and according to the spokesman for the Radical Party, as reported by TV2, they have sent the sign to be printed in preparation for the new name “Palæstinas Plads”.
The political parties that voted in favor of the resolution – Enhedslisten, SF, Det Radikale Venstre and Alternativet – are the same parties that submitted a proposal last October to name the area in Nørrebro Palæstinas Plads.
These are also the parties that voted yes at Monday's meeting, while the Conservative Party and the Social Democrats voted against the designation.
