In several areas of the municipality of Aalborg, health authorities are encouraging residents to boil tap water twice before using it, due to bacteria being found in the water from Hammer Bakker Forsyningsselskab, which has consequently shut down water stations, affecting the water supply to five other stations in the area, according to the local press.
The specific areas are Grindsted, Uggerhalne, Gl. Sulsted, Vestbjerg and Sulsted Stationsby.
The bacteria found in drinking water are called coliform bacteria. It has not been discovered exactly where the bacteria originate, but the source is being traced.
E. coli bacteria can appear from contact between drinking water and surface water or soil.
