A giant supermarket chain is withdrawing from Denmark, and a Norwegian company is acquiring the stores.

Aldi opened its first store in Denmark in 1977, making it the first supermarket chain known for discounts and reduced prices in Denmark.

There are currently 188 Aldi stores throughout the country, and Aldi employs around 2,800 people here in Denmark.

The Danish branch of the German chain group has suffered losses for many years, and last year it incurred losses of 393 million Danish kroner.
