Martin Lidegaard, leader of the left-wing Radikale Venstre party, expressed his shock and outrage at the murders of ten women in Denmark since the beginning of 2025, most of them at the hands of their current or former partners. He noted that these crimes are often committed with knives or through severe beatings, highlighting the widespread problem of domestic violence in the country, in a post on social media. Lidegaard expressed his surprise at the lack of media and political coverage of these crimes, considering it an indication of the absence of a systematic approach to combating violence against women in Denmark. He emphasized that Denmark ranks among the top five countries in the European Union in terms of domestic violence rates, with approximately 12 women killed annually by their partners—a figure that has remained relatively stable over the years.
Lidegaard noted that approximately 118,000 women in Denmark experience physical or psychological violence at the hands of their partners each year, and that men are also increasingly facing this type of violence. He emphasized that domestic violence poses a greater threat than other crimes, such as gang-related offenses, yet it does not receive sufficient attention from the government.
