The prosecutor's office of the South Jutland and South Jutland police sent an indictment to the court in Esbjerg, where a 29-year-old woman was charged with consenting to terrorism.
The woman, who lives in the municipality of Esbjerg, is accused of violating Article 136, subsection 2 of the Criminal Code, by publicly endorsing a terrorist act on October 7, 2023, in connection with a comment on a Facebook news thread by Ekstra Bladet. The news story covered Hamas attacks on Israel.
“This case serves as a reminder that publicly expressing approval of a terrorist act online, in the media, or in public is a criminal offense, and such comments will be prosecuted. Therefore, you must be careful about what you write on social media, even if you are sitting behind a screen and the comment is not directly targeting one or more individuals,” notes Prosecutor Holler Revslund, Public Prosecutor's Office for the South and East of the country, South Jutland Police.
The case against the 29-year-old woman has been brought before a judge, with the prosecution intending to seek a prison sentence. The position in this case was accepted by the State Prosecutor in Copenhagen, who determined that she made a statement condoning a terrorist act.
The case is now awaiting processing in court in Esbjerg.
