New unemployment benefit (A-Kasse) laws come into effect today and “graduates are paying the price.”

According to the DR website, the new unemployment benefit laws that came into effect today particularly affect students who are about to graduate, as the period of receiving unemployment benefits for this category has been reduced to one year instead of two, and the monthly amount has been reduced to 9,700 Danish kroner after the first three months of receiving unemployment benefits.

According to calculations made by the Academics Union in an analysis, more than 5,000 new graduates could lose their right to unemployment benefits each year if they have a period of unemployment exceeding one year.
