The King issued a decree appointing Morten Messersmeat a Knight of the Order of the Danebrog on Wednesday, and accordingly, the leader of the Danish People's Party, Morten Messersmeat, was appointed a Knight of the Order of the Danebrog.

Morten Messersmeet, leader of the Danish People's Party (a right-wing blue party), wrote on his Facebook page: "With humility and gratitude, I can share today the news of my knighthood in the Order of the Dannebrog," adding that he receives this honor based on the trust and support he has "received from all of you." He continued, "This honor bestowed upon me by King Christian V obliges me. It obliges me to continue fighting for the good of Denmark with a discerning heart and a discerning vision." He thanked the King for the appointment and everyone who has supported him "in good times and bad.".

According to Messerschmitt, his motivation was always to "serve Denmark" and protect the country's history, values, democracy, and the royal family.

The Order of Dannebrog was created by Christian V in 1671 and is awarded as a mark of honor for particularly outstanding efforts in Denmark.

Morten Messerschmitt, the leader of the Danish People's Party, who has succeeded in significantly increasing his party's popularity among Danes after a long period of internal crises, is known for his strong opposition to foreigners in Denmark, particularly to Muslim immigrants and those from the Middle East in general. He aims to tighten immigration and asylum laws and combat all forms of manifestations of Islamic culture in Denmark. Recently, with the approach of the municipal elections, he entered into a political battle on social media and in Danish media outlets regarding the presence of Arabs and Muslims in Denmark, blaming the Social Democratic Party and Mette Frederiksen. The Social Democratic Party denies this and, in turn, accuses the Danish People's Party of shared responsibility with the Blue parties for the increase in the number of Arabs, Muslims, and Middle Easterners in general, when they were part of the Blue government before 2019.
